Family-Friendly Fair to be Held July 20
Whispering Pines Campsites & RV Resort, a rustic camp vacation spot at 550 Sand Hill Road, will be open to us all for a craft and vendor fair July 20 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Proceeds will benefit Camp Good Days & Special Times, a Central New York summer camp for children with pediatric cancer.
The fair will include approximately 20 local vendors with food, crafts, jewelry, wine and more. There will also be live DJ music, a bounce house and a “paint your own cookie” craft for the kids. Plus, it’s an excellent opportunity to check out this campground that sits right in our own backyard.

The campground, which was re-opened in 1996, sits upon 75 acres of beautiful Greenfield land. Whispering Pines refers to the property as “towering pine trees, 2 crystal stream-fed ponds and a picturesque trout brook.” It is owned by Scott and Kimberly Foro, who subdivided the property to build a home in 1999. The Foros had been avid campers, traveling from to different campgrounds in New York, Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine, the Carolinas and Florida. Scott began his own rating system for each campground they stayed at, noting what he would do different if he owned each park.
Kim’s father, Don Austin Sr. happened upon the campground while taking a drive and found it overgrown and in a state of disrepair. After the Foros explored the property, they knew the campground had “good bones,” and with work ethic and vision, they knew they could turn it into a first-rate campground. Now, nearly 30 years later, the Foro family has done just that.
“My father’s blood, sweat and tears are deeply embedded in this campground, along with ours,” Kim Foro said. “We all worked side by side, day and night, to make the park what it is today.” Foro’s father passed away earlier this year, just days before his 87th birthday.
“Greenfield is such a close-knit community,” Owner Kim Foro said. “We are quiet and rural but close to the whirlwind of activity in Saratoga. That makes a nice contrast for campers.”
Today, the campground holds 112 total sites, including tent sites, RV sites and a fully-stocked, luxury park model rental unit that sleeps six.
Amenities include a playground, pool, dishwashing station, lending library, camp store, multiple full restrooms, a laundry facility and an historic firetruck that guests have been known to explore and ride on. Its “Tamarack Room” is home to a myriad of activities for visitors, including potluck suppers, trivia nights, ice cream socials, craft classes, comedy shows and more. Camping season rates can be found here; park model rates are here.
The campground also holds a silent auction in late July and an annual Italian dinner fundraiser in early August to benefit Camp Good Days. Foro said the charity has been supported for the past 12 years by the Campground Owners of New York , Inc. of which Whispering Pines is a member. Kim served on the organization’s board of directors for 18 years. To sign up to become involved with these fundraisers or request more information, please call 885-687-2267 (885-OUR CAMP), ext. 701. Whispering Pines is always looking for local businesses and groups who would like to get involved.

There’s nothing like camping in the TOG.
